COOL ROOFS: St Louis is a socially-conscious, for-profit company that provides living-wage green jobs by installing cool roofs on buildings throughout St. Louis.

Founder

Mark Specht studied cool roofs for two and a half years as part of his Master of Social Work degree from Washington University, during which he concentrated on Environmental Concerns, Urban Sustainability, and Social & Economic Development.

During his studies, Mr. Specht gave a cool roof presentation at the University of Calgary's EcoConference--yes they work as far north as Canada! He was also the Program Assistant and practicum student at the Cambridge Energy Alliance in Cambridge, Massachusetts, organizing community outreach to lower the city's carbon footprint. Over winter break in December 2009 he worked outside Udaipur, India identifying environmental justice disparities.

Mr. Specht envisions a cooler, more affordable, more environmentally-friendly St. Louis, and is working hard to see this vision come true.
